Sanford School associate professor interviewed about children’s shyness on national radio

Earlier this month, Natalie Eggum, an associate professor at the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics, was interviewed about children’s shyness and social withdrawal. The interview was on a 30-minute segment called “About our kids” hosted by Dr. Lori Evans, Dr. Yamalis Diaz, and Dr. Pantea Farahmand of New York University, and was simulcast on SiriusXM’s Doctor Radio and Mental Health Radio.

As a featured guest, Eggum answered audience questions to give listeners essential information and advice about child, teen and family mental health – especially children’s social adjustment.

The interview showcased Eggum’s expertise as a researcher specializing in factors that shape children’s and adolescents' social, school and psychological adjustment. She has published over 60 articles and chapters and is an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Developmental Psychology and a Consulting Editor for Developmental Psychology. Her research has been funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and The Brady Education Foundation. She is also the director of the ECLIPSE Studies Lab.

In addition to research, Eggum teaches courses in undergraduate-level statistics, as well as graduate-level advanced quantitative methods courses. An award-winning professor, her teaching has been recognized with accolades such as the 2014 Zebulon Pearce Distinguished Teaching Award in Social Sciences by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the 2016 Centennial Professorship Award by the Associated Students of Arizona State University.
